Due to suspensions and injury, the Aberaeron squad was severely tested and arrived at Radnor without any substitutes. Aberaeron started brightly and settled in to play some attractive football and creating a few openings Radnor looked dangerous on the break with their excellent striker, Joey Price, making dangerous runs.

On one of Aberaeron’s forays the ball was lost and immediately pumped long to Price who ran in to the box and picked out a fellow player who scored with ease. Rather than lick their wounds, Aberaeron took control of the game and created numerous chances, but the home keeper stood firm. From a good move the keeper saved but Llew Lloyd cleverly slotted the ball in for a deserved equaliser. What happened next will remain with all who were there for a long time; Liam Jaques, who had terrorised the Radnor defence all half with his close control and wizardry, picked the ball up about forty yards from goal, beat two players and unleashed s fantastic dipping effort that flew high in to the net to take the lead- a truly superb goal. The Radnor players agreed that it was the best ever goal at the school fields! Liam continued to inflict damage in the second half and drilled a shot from the edge of the area for 3-1. This spurred Radnor to try and get back in the game and Ollie Farebrother had to earn his corn in the Aberaeron goal. Inevitably Joey Price out-sprinted the visiting defence to slot the ball past Farebrother. Rather than capitulate, Aberaeron gained control again and when they were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal, Liam Jaques calmly approached the ball and fire an unstoppable thunderbolt right in to the angle of bar and post - even the home fans applauded another truly fantastic goal. This was a superb hat-trick from a very talented player who seems to improve every game! This time Radnor did not have an answer and although creating some chances, they were dealt with by a staunch Aberaeron defence. A great win with an excellent team performance throughout but the plaudits have to go to the magical Liam Jaques - take a bow!
